The Corning Schools Gifted and Talented Program is based on the idea that every student should be provided with learning experiences best suited to his/her abilities. Recognizing that gifted and talented students have abilities and needs different from those of other students, we believe a qualitatively differentiated curriculum should be provided.
Furthermore, we accept the idea that individuals display gifted behavior at particular times and in certain areas. Therefore, the program for the gifted and talented should provide services at the times when and in particular areas where the individuals show interests and abilities.
Gifted and talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services.
Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through and interaction of above average (1) intellectual ability, (2) task commitment and/or motivation, and (3) creative ability
