Two CHS Students Elected SkillsUSA State Officers

This month Arkansas SkillsUSA elected their state officers. They elected nine officers from SkillsUSA students around the state from High Schools and Career Tech Centers. Among those elected were two CHS SkillsUSA students. They are Melody Pennington and Sabrina Parks.

Melody, a senior, will be in her 4th term as a state officer but this will be the first time she will serve as President. Melody has been very active in SkillsUSA since she was a freshman. She has served as an officer as well as competed in the pin design competition. In the pin design competition she was awarded a Gold Medal for trading pin design and earned a trip to Nationals. As an officer or a competitor, she has been to the SkillsUSA National Convention each year she has participated.

Sabrina, a junior, is in her first year in the SkillsUSA club. She was elected to the position of Vice-President. Although in her first year with SkillsUSA, Sabrina is not without leadership abilities. She is active in National Honor Society, Art Club, Bobcat Ambassadors, Future Farmers Of America, Science Club, and Quiz Bowl. Sabrina was Corning artist of the month for February 2020, and she helped paint the mural in Corning Art Alley. For the Quiz Bowl, she has competed at the national level.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, this year's officers will not be able to meet and train in the normal fashion. They will meet virtually via Zoom frequently to train for the State Convention and Competition held in Hot Springs each year. If the Convention is not allowed to take place in April, then the officers will help with the virtual aspect of the competitions, opening and closing the ceremonies through Zoom meetings. All of us at Corning Schools are proud of these ladies and what they have accomplished.
